Graded character support

Grade “Core” includes characters for major living orthographies (Hindi, Marathi, Nepali…), while grade “Extension” includes the rest.

Core

The major use case of matra “ॅ” is in Marathi. In Unicode, its independent form is “ऍ”, but the current standard orthography of Marathi uses “ॲ”. The existence of “ऍ” in grade “Core” is mainly for legacy spelling support.

“ऱ” in grade “Core” is only for the legacy character sequence of Eyelash RA, <ऱ, Virama>.
